Two movies titled Flashpoint enter, only one will leave (with that title) as Herman “OmegaPrime” Davis, Michael Alford, and Robert Rau watch a budding bromance between Treat Williams and Kris Kristofferson — and Donnie Yen be a total badass — to determine which should be called Flashpoint.
With a superhero movie by the same title scheduled for 2020, we decided to look at two movies already available with this moniker. The first is an HBO production with Treat Williams, Kris Kristofferson, Kurtwood Smith, Jean Smart, and a ton of other recognizable faces. Treat and Kris are best buds who work the Mexico-U.S. border when they find 800 grand in an old Jeep. What could go wrong? Well, for starters, the theme song was voted worst end title song by Leonard Maltin in 1984, proving we categorize just about anything
The second movie stars Donnie Yen as the best cop ever, but with a not-so-great cop buddy who manages to get caught deep undercover. How does Donnie fix this problem? By killing anyone that stands in his way, of course. The movie does a great job building to a final fight scene that is definitely worth the wait.
This one’s gonna be a toughie, but is either movie good enough to call itself Flashpoint? Listen if you dare.
Check out Michael Alford every Monday at the Time Out Lounge for free trivia, or at the next Trivial Objections event at the Manship, Saturday February 17th.
