Legendary basketball coach and ardent Donald Trump supporter Bobby Knight insisted opponents protesting against the president-elect should just lie down and let his administration happen.
The longtime head coach of the University of Indiana Hoosiers made his remarks in response to nightly anti-Trump demonstrations across the country that began less than 24 hours after the Republican was declared the winner of the 2016 presidential election.
“If a Trump presidency is inevitable,” Knight told the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal, “people should just lay back, relax, and enjoy it. I mean, why fight it? It’s only going to make things worse.”
“Why resist what’s going to happen anyway? Trump is going to be the big man on top for the next four years. No amount and kicking and screaming is going to change that.”
The 76-year-old known as “The General” insisted that, since Trump will be the 45th president of the United States, those who vehemently oppose him gaining entry into the Oval Office would be better served by trying to draw pleasure from a Trump administration.
“Why resist what’s going to happen anyway? Trump is going to be the big man on top for the next four years. No amount and kicking and screaming is going to change that,” Knight explained. “Give the man a chance to do what he wants to do.”
Knight added, “Who knows? By the time he’s done, you might find out you like it and want him in there for another four years, so just let him have his way and quit crying about it.”
