Gov. Edwards Signs Into Law Bill Banning “Spongebob Squarepants” Memes

In what many agree may be too little too late, Gov. John Bel Edwards has signed a measure banning any and all memes containing characters from the cartoon Spongebob Squarepants from being posted from any IP address within the state of Louisiana.

Spongebob-suck-itself-meme“I just feel that there are too many other quality cartoons out there, and we aren’t taking advantage of their meme capabilities,” Edwards said in a news release regarding House Bill 1319. “What about Rocko’s Modern Life? Or Catdog? Maybe some Johnny Bravo? I don’t know, I just think we can do better.”

Some political analysts insist Edwards signed the bill only as an attempt to connect with college-aged voters who are upset about the potential loss of their TOPS scholarships.

Spongebob-meme-man-do-both“Whaaaaaaat?” Edwards replied when reporters questioned him about such speculation as to his true motivation in signing the bill. “That’s ridiculous. I’ve always been an avid follower of internet trends. Also, totally unrelated, but do you guys want some Adderall?”

When pressed further, Edwards abruptly ended the news conference and began to furiously clean the Governor’s Mansion.RedShtick-Top-ColumnStop
