In the wake of Friday’s terrorist attacks in Paris, Gov. Bobby Jindal has issued an executive order that attempts to prevent the resettlement of Syrian refugees in Louisiana. Jindal has joined governors from other states — including Arkansas, Alabama, Texas, and Mississippi — who’ve signed similar measures to ban Syrian refugees who are seeking asylum from a civil war, although such orders likely mean little since the federal government doesn’t need a state’s support or permission to resettle refugees there.

“It’s not like we’ve ever relied on other places to take in possibly violent refugees from Louisiana.” — Katrina Nola, historian
“You can’t be too careful. One of those brown-skinned kids might grow up to be another Bobby Jindal.” — Eric Sherman, theater manager
“It’s refreshing to see Jindal not mixing his religion with politics by being a shitty Christian.” — Alison Garcia, website designer
