That’s right, it’s that time of year again. For the second year in a row, we’re giving you a chance to let us – and the world – know what people, businesses, and other groups get the most undue attention and aggrandizement in the Capital City.
Baton Rouge’s No. 1 export is hype.
We introduced Overrated Rouge last year as a cathartic way to counter the free, disproportionate publicity that some folks seem to garner courtesy of certain media outlets (i.e., the Baton Rouge propaganda machine) who have been doling out awards to people, businesses, and other entities, praising them as the “best” of Baton Rouge.
Overrated Rouge was so well-received by so many last year, we decided to do it again. It seems many of you agreed with our assertion that Baton Rouge’s No. 1 export is hype.
Each week in June, you’ll get to vote on several items within one of four broad categories, scheduled as follows:
- June 2-8: Dining
- June 9-15: Entertainment and Nightlife
- June 16-22: People
- June 23-29: Retail and Lifestyle
Despite the positive reception to Overrated Rouge in 2013, some may still deem this an exercise in cynicism. Again, we call it an attempt to bring honesty and balance to the Baton Rouge public relations universe. We’re still an irreverent satire site, not a glorified cheer squad.
