Day 12 Results: Edwin Edwards (2) defeated Gil Dozier (7) with 83.3%. Boiled crawfish (2) beat oysters Bienville (7) with 81.2%.
The Round of Eight opens with matchups featuring the Kingfish, irresistible comfort food, and arguably the most inept crook ever to hold statewide office in Louisiana history.
CROOKED: Huey Long (1) vs. Doug Green (5)
And then there were eight. We’re getting down to the nitty gritty, folks, as evidenced by increasingly tougher matchups, like today’s.
Louisiana’s venerable crook, former Louisiana governor, and former U.S. Senator Huey Long – who made it to the Elite Eight by defeating Ray Nagin in Round 2 – is squaring off with Doug Green, the man who was incarcerated for corruption four times longer than he held the office of Louisiana insurance commissioner. Green got here by beating a Long crony, former Louisiana Governor Richard Leche.
There’s a good chance that Green could play the part of Dr. Carl Weiss – or Huey’s bodyguards … or whoever the hell actually shot Long – and take out the Kingfish.
COOKED: Gumbo (1) vs. Étouffée (4)
Voters face an equally daunting choice in today’s Cooked pairing. Both competitors are warm and comforting and all but impossible to resist when prepared right, but only one can advance to the Final Four.
Who will it be? Gumbo, which made it out of the second round by narrowly defeating po-boy? Or will it be étouffée, which snuffed out bananas Foster in the previous round? Which dish will move on?
Ready. Set. VOTE! (Polls close nightly at 10 p.m. CDT.)
FYI: If you’re trying to make sense of this graft vs. grub competition, here’s an explanation.
