MARCH MADNESS: News vs. Booze – The Final Showdown

News-Booze-vann-bourbonThat fateful day has finally arrived. The day when a champion from the news side squares off against a champion from the booze category. Now you know why this tournament’s unofficial nickname is the John Mahaffey Invitational.

Today’s championship match was set Friday night when WBRZ’s Whitney Vann won her third competition in four days, while bourbon absolutely destroyed the other booze semifinalist.

2une In anchorwoman and No. 2 seed Whitney Vann managed to defeat coworker and twelfth seed Chris Nakamoto by getting 60.5% of the 9,416 votes cast on the news side. Sure, that’s not even half of the nearly 24,000 cast the day before in Whitney’s matchup against WAFB’s Kiran Chawla, but that’s a lot of people being unproductive during office hours. We thank you.

At least Nakamoto was respectable in defeat. We can’t really say the same for ninth-seeded Canadian whiskey, which barely broke double digits (10.1%) against No. 6 bourbon. Yes, bourbon ended up with 89.9% of the 2,723 votes cast in the booze category. That’s arguably the most embarrassing performance by a Canadian in this country since Justin Bieber threw up onstage.

NEWS vs. BOOZE – FINALS: Whitney Vann (2) vs. Bourbon (6)

Today’s finals matchup features a couple of unbridled spirits born of Kentucky, both frequently appreciated during predawn hours. It’s “The Dancing Queen versus Jim Beam” – Whitney Vann against bourbon. Time to find out which one Baton Rouge likes better.

Ready. Set. VOTE! (Polls close nightly at 10 p.m. CDT.)
